Surprisingly, there were no pictures of the Once upon a time there was a girl who really loved Dogs and Steelers shirt. There were only 3 of us, and you would have thought she would have kept the pictures of us fishing at the bay, blowing out birthday candles, just everyday things captured on film, that I remembered from long ago. But there were none. Zip, zilch. To top it off, years in the past, when we 3 were really small, my mom had made Granny a purse, one that was all the rage at the time.

They were wooden, shaped like little picnic baskets with Once upon a time there was a girl who really loved Dogs and Steelers shirt. Well, we found that purse seems she never threw anything out, except pictures of her grandkids in the top of her closet, all the way to the back, and the lid that had our pictures on it was gone. Just gone. We never found the lid to that old purse anywhere while we were cleaning out that house. Granny had a massive stroke and passed away about a year after she moved into assisted living.

During that year, Granny and I had many lunch dates and shopping dates. After her stroke, I stayed at her bedside as much as I could, singing to her, talking to her, telling stories about her and Grandpa, and the things they did when my brothers and I were young, trips to the bay, parties, and barbeques, silly memories of fun times. I knew Granny was dying, and wouldn’t recover, and she was moved to a nursing home to live out her last days.
